Our Approach to Treating

Inflammatory Myopathies

Specialists at NYU Langone are experts at diagnosing and treating inflammatory myopathies, such as polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and inclusion body myositis. These conditions involve chronic muscle inflammation, weakness, and loss of muscle throughout the body.

The Neuromuscular Disease Center, sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, provides long-term care for children and adults with muscle diseases. Specialists there offer diagnosis, treatment, and physical therapy on an outpatient basis. Children with inflammatory myopathies receive care at the Neuromuscular Disease Center through Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone.

Treatment for Inflammatory Myopathies

Doctors at NYU Langone prescribe medication based on the type of muscle disease that’s causing your symptoms, as well as physical therapy to help you regain your strength and range of motion.
